North of Nowhere Expo:
Multidisciplinary Festival of Independent Media & Underground Art

The North of Nowhere Expo is a non-profit activist-arts
festival which is committed to fostering the awareness of the arts as tools
for positive social change. The Expo will include:
- 8 components to an international anti-war art exhibition consisting of over 350 prints and posters, and 14,000 peace cranes commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Hiroshima bombings
- an underground comic art exhibition (prints, paintings and comix/zines)
- 5 live music/performance cabarets (3 theme events)
- 30 videoactivist & independent film screenings
- a 2-day small press, fair trade & social justice fair
- D.I.Y. workshops & skillshares
- pre-event promotional tabling & volunteer recruitment (August/September)
- production crew (prepping & installing artwork)
- office administration (data entry, copying, web research)
- postering & signage creation & placement/distribution
- front-of-house (taking tickets & providing guest information)
- special event set-up (environmental design & decorating)
- bartenders & servers (receptions, film screenings & live music cabarets)
- hosts/hostesses for theme events (exhibitionist/theatre background an asset)
- media & publicity (drafting & sending releases, liasing between expo producers & media)
- pre-recruitment of new board members (appointments in November; 12-month commitment req'd)
This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical work-experience in a
fun, creative and exciting social environment. All
NoN Expo volunteers will receive full-access passes to all events, hospitality
& other perks, and be honoured at a volunteer-wrap party on Sept. 30.
Previous experience is an asset, but not required.
All orientation meetings will be held in Room #9,
6th Floor, at the Stanley A. Milner Library in downtown Edmonton (7 Sir
Winston Churchill Square) on the following dates:
Wed., Aug. 31: 3pm & 7pm - Specifically pre-event
admin & production volunteers
Wed., Sept. 7 & 14: 3pm & 7pm - Specifically publicity admin & front-of-house/event
volunteers

changes, etc.)
