THURS, Sept. 22: 7pm:

Comic Jam!
http://www.happyharborcomics.com/events/page_event_comicjam.html
@ Happy Harbor Comics, 10112 124 St. (Upstairs)

Comic Jam? What's a Comic Jam?
Well, it ain't Lucy stomping on grapes, that's for sure. It's numerous creators sitting around big tables and cranking out improv comic strip art in 12 minute blocks. What's so big about that, you say? Man, you ask a lot of questions. What's big about it is that we trade pages every block so each piece becomes a comic menagerie! More than practicing your art skills, it puts your imagination to the test to follow someone else's work while leaving something for the next person to pick up on. Think you got the chops? Then come out and try it. All you need is a pencil, we supply the paper and even the ink! What have you got to lose? And no, there won't be any jam... unless you bring some... and make sure you bring enough for everyone.

TUES, Sept. 27: 2:30pm (to 4pm)

GUERILLA ADVERTISING Workshop & Skillshare
@ University of Alberta: Tory Breezeway 2

This free workshop will be a discussion of advertisement strategies that activists can use to get their message across. Methods discussed will include poster design and application, stencil T-shirt printing (diy low budget), Graffiti and leafletting.

Poster Design & Leafletting: A description of how activists make leaflets & posters, with a comparison of various posters used in the past, what was good , what was bad. Also, a few tips on how to design posters oneself, both using the diy cut and paste method and also newer methods utilizing computer technology, and suggestions on how to combine image-oriented posters with information and create a leaflet.

Poster Application: Methods of applying posters to various surfaces. Standard methods used by professional gig/event posterers (and their limitation) as well as less licit means of affixing posters (and their advantages). Discussed will be staple gun, packing tape, and glue/wheat paste methods, and a demonstration of some of these methods will be done. Also discussed will be legalities, and pole versus flat surface application.

Stencil T-shirt Making & Graffiti: A brief demonstration of how stencils can be made and then used to create decent looking T-shirts & guerilla ads on non-clothing surfaces at low cost. Due to time constraints, actual T-shirt making will not be undertaken at this workshop, but examples of each stage of the process will be provided. * Come to our Sept. 29 Skillshare (1-4pm, same location) to stencil your own T-shirt!

Thurs., Sept. 29 @ 1pm (to 4pm)
