The Edmonton Small Press Association (ESPA)
maintains an extensive Small Press Library & Archive
which is currently represented by over 700 member artists and collectives
from 33 countries. We encourage artists to submit info to our archive
and invite submissions year-round, regardless of official Calls for Submissions or exhibitions. See the catalogue link
at the left for more info about submitting.
We also produce several special events year-round
in an effort to gain exposure for our mission and mandate, including annual
small press and Fair Trade fairs, socio-political visual arts exhibitions, film/video screenings (our "UniTV" program!), special guest speakers, the occasional music cabaretsand we also initiate special art projects as opportunities arise, when our limited budget allows.. We frequently collaborate with other social-justice advocates in
producing Active Citizenship projects involving
street theatre, peaceful marches and demonstrations, etc., and for 2 years
we ran the successful Free Store & Much More ((on hiatus until such time we can find more accessible permanent space). We also produce the now-annual North of Nowhere Expo - a multidisciplinary festival
of independent media & underground art - which incorporates all of the above into one more intensive event, every fall (see the NoN Expo link at left for more info).
We are also distributors:
We sell a wide variety of zines, underground/alternative comix, literary chapbooks,
activist & anarchist literature, DVDS & CDs, calendars & organizers, t-shirts, greeting cards, patches, buttons and other fun & creative usable or wearable art. All
proceeds from distro sales support support the producer artists as well as our non-profit activities and are funneled
back into ESPA's special projects and ongoing operations. We don't plan on releasing a print
catalogue, but we hope to update the ESPA site sometime in the not-too-distant future (info will be posted to the infoshop/distro link at left when that time presents itself).
In the meantime, find out where we'll be at the what's new
